Which Busch Exhaust Filter Does Your Vacuum Pump Need?
Share
The exhaust filter on a Busch rotary vane pump is a replaceable part, and the right one depends on your exact pump. This guide shows the filters we carry, what each product page says it fits, and how to confirm your pump before you order.
What an exhaust filter does
The exhaust filter sits on the pump's exhaust and is there to keep oil mist from leaving the pump. Busch lists it as a distinct component in its pump manuals. A clogged filter restricts airflow and reduces the pump's effective vacuum, so the most common sign is vacuum that is weaker than normal or slow to build. A technician can confirm. If vacuum is inconsistent from cycle to cycle instead, also check the gas ballast valve, which can stick or fail to seat properly.

Busch filters are sized to the pump. The pump designations come from our product titles. Confirm the match against your pump nameplate.
Do not choose by horsepower alone
Horsepower is a useful clue, but the pump model is what decides the filter. Busch pump manuals say to identify the pump from the nameplate. Use the model designation on the nameplate, such as 021, 040, 063 or 160, and compare it with the product title. If the horsepower and model do not agree, contact us before ordering.
How to identify your pump
- Find the nameplate on the pump and note the model designation.
- Find the matching filter in the table above.
- Confirm the part number on the filter you are replacing if you can see it.
- When in doubt, send us your pump's horsepower or model number through our contact page.
Common purchasing mistakes
- Choosing by horsepower without checking the model.
- Ordering a filter for a different pump series because the size looks similar.
- Replacing the filter when the real problem is something else, such as the oil or a worn intake screen. See how and when to change pump oil.
Frequently asked questions
Is the 025/040 filter the same as the 063?
No. They are listed for different pumps. Check the product title and your nameplate.
How do I know if it is the pump or the chamber and lid?
If the machine struggles to reach vacuum or takes noticeably longer than it used to, suspect the pump first. If the pump seems fine but the pouch still does not seal, look at the lid, seal bar and seal wire.
Should I replace the oil at the same time?
It can be a good time to check it. See our pump oil guide.
