Chamber Vacuum Sealer Lid Won't Stay Open or Lift? How to Check the Lid Spring
Share
A chamber vacuum sealer lid that will not stay open, drops, or does not lift smoothly is an annoyance and a pinch hazard. A worn lid spring is one of the first things to check. This guide covers safe preliminary checks, other possible causes, and the spring we list for each model.
Safety first
- Unplug the machine before inspecting anything.
- Support the lid securely before you look at any spring or hinge, and never put your hands under an unsupported lid.
- Do not take apart a gas spring (the sealed hydraulic type). Leave that to a qualified technician.
Signs of a lid spring problem
- The lid drops or closes by itself.
- The lid feels heavy or does not lift smoothly.
- The lid does not hold down firmly under vacuum. The lid spring is the most common cause, because it wears out over repeated open and close cycles.
- A spring is visibly stretched, bent, broken or has come loose from its fitting.
Other possible causes
The spring is not always the cause. Check for loose or worn hinge hardware, a lid that is misaligned, a lid lock that is worn or not latching, and a worn lid gasket that makes the lid seat unevenly. If you are not sure, stop and ask a technician.
Find the spring for your model
Springs are model specific, and there is no single universal lid spring for any brand. Match your model to the product title. Do not order by appearance alone. For example, each Promarks double chamber model (DC-640, DC-650 and DC-800) uses its own spring and they are not interchangeable, and Henkovac H-1900/H-2000 machines use a different gas spring from the H-3000.

A related part, the Henkovac lid lock with hook, is also worth checking if the lid will not latch. Do not assume that machines in the same row share a spring.
When to call a technician
If the lid is heavy, the spring is under load, or you are working near a gas spring, have a qualified technician do the repair.
Frequently asked questions
Is the lid spring the same as the lid hydraulic?
No. Your machine uses one or the other, and each is listed for specific models. Some hydraulics are gas springs, so never take one apart.
I do not see my model.
