Sipromac/Berkel MC-30 Not Holding Its Settings? Replace the Memory Battery

If your Sipromac or Berkel machine with an MC-30 control board keeps losing its programmed settings, a worn memory battery is the first thing to look at. This guide explains the symptoms, how the battery differs from the other MC-30 parts, and how the core charge on our rebuilt board works.

Symptoms of a failing memory battery

The classic sign is a control board that no longer holds its settings. Our MC-30 memory battery page says to replace it when the MC-30 control board is no longer holding its settings. Often the battery, not the whole board, is the problem, and replacing it is a much smaller repair than replacing the board.

Is your machine an MC-30?

The MC-30 board pairs with the KB-30 key board. The MC-40 is a different board that pairs with the KB-40. They are matched pairs, not mix-and-match. Check the label on your control board and control box before you order, and contact us if you are not sure which you have.

Battery or something else?

Settings loss points to the battery, but other symptoms suggest an electronic fault in a different part: the machine will not start a cycle, or the keypad does not respond. These are the related parts we carry:

Part What our product page says
Memory battery Replace it if the MC-30 board no longer holds its settings.
KB-30 key board The touch pad that pairs with the MC-30 control board.
MC-30 control cable Fits all older style Sipromac and Berkel vacuum packaging machines.
Rebuilt MC-30 control board Pairs with the KB-30 touch pad. A core charge applies.
Control box gasket Fits all MC-30 and MC-40 control boxes. A worn one can let moisture into the electronics compartment.

If the key board does not respond, a cable may be at fault. If settings vanish, suspect the battery first. If problems continue after replacing the battery, the board itself may need replacing. A qualified technician can confirm which.

Replacing the battery

Replacing the memory battery is service-level work on the control board. Unplug the machine first, follow your machine's service documentation, and use a qualified technician if you are not comfortable working on electronics. This article does not replace the manufacturer's instructions.

Battery versus replacing the board

Replace the battery first if settings loss is the only symptom. Consider the board only if the problem remains or other functions fail.

The $500 core charge on the rebuilt board

  • A $500 core charge applies to all MC-30 Sipromac/Berkel control board sales.
  • The core charge is included in the list price shown on the product page.
  • It is fully refundable when you return your old control board, if the old board is repairable.

For return instructions, contact us before you ship the old board. Our standard return terms are on the Shipping & Returns page.

Frequently asked questions

Will a new battery fix my MC-30?

If the only symptom is lost settings, the battery is the first part to replace. If problems remain, ask a technician to check the board, key board and cable.

Does the MC-40 use the same parts?

No. The MC-40 pairs with the KB-40 key board and has its own control board.
